Waste Disposal Facilities
The Regional District of Nanaimo owns and operates two solid waste management facilities: the Regional Landfill and Church Road Transfer Station. Both facilities operate under the Solid Waste Management Plan.
Safety Precaution
Customers and visitors must follow all posted site regulations. Due to mobile equipment present, visitors to the active landfill area must wear high-visibility apparel and safety boots. Smoking is strictly prohibited due to the risk of fire and the presence of landfill gas.
These facilities collect:
- Garbage from commercial customers and the public
- Recyclable material, including garden waste and scrap metal
- Construction and demolition waste
- Controlled waste
RDN Solid Waste Facilities are provided to safely manage and dispose of waste that cannot be composted, reused, recycled or otherwise diverted from disposal. Please consider the 4 Rs – Reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink – before bringing materials to either facility. Use the What Goes Where tool to find local options for recycling in your area.
Hours
Both facilities are open:
- Monday to Sunday
- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
They are close for all provincial and federal Statutory Holidays, except Easter Monday.
