Big Qualicum River Regional Trail

Big Qualicum River Regional Trail is a family-friendly riverside route that begins at the Big Qualicum Hatchery and follows a gravel service road for 10 kilometres through a scenic forest canopy. Along the way, visitors can explore the Fisheries and Oceans Canada hatchery, watch salmon return to spawn each fall, and enjoy a walk, run or bike ride beside the river. The trail offers an easy introduction to the natural beauty of Lighthouse Country, with opportunities to experience one of the region’s most impressive salmon runs. Please note that the trail ends before Horne Lake Caves Road, an active logging road that is not suitable for walking or cycling.

Trail Difficulty

This recreational trail is rated ‘Easy’ and visitors should use it at their own risk. Trails with this rating are mostly flat, smooth, well-defined with gentle infrequent slopes and few to no obstacles. However, these trails are not universally accessible.
